Code of Ethics

Statement

No matter what job you do or where you do it, you are AHI CIO. Think about that as you watch over every activity and make sure your actions always reflect our values.

Purpose

This document outlines the Affordable Health Initiative (AHI) CIO’s Code of Ethics. AHI CIO requires that all aspects of our work and that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO follow the code. We will ensure that our partner agencies are aware of our Code of Ethics by ensuring that it is distributed to all people working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO, by raising awareness at initial meetings with potential partners and ensuring that it is on the AHI CIO website.

This Code of Ethics sets legal and ethical standards for Trustees, and everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO. This Code is intended to deter wrongdoing and to promote the ethical conduct of all AHI CIO activities.

Compliance with Laws and AHI CIO policies

AHI CIO requires that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO:

1)     comply with all laws, values and regulations applicable to charity organisations.

2)     use sound judgment and common sense to comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.

3)     promptly report the violation of any law or AHI CIO policies to an AHI CIO Trustee.

Conflicts of Interest

AHI CIO requires that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO:

1)     must act in the best interests of the AHI CIO

2)     must refrain from engaging in any activity or having a personal interest that presents a "conflict of interest."

3)     promptly disclose any transaction or relationship that reasonably could be expected to give rise to a conflict of interest.

Confidentiality

AHI CIO requires that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO:

1)     must maintain the confidentiality of confidential information entrusted to them in their capacity with AHI CIO. Unauthorized disclosure of any confidential information is prohibited.

2)     take appropriate precautions to ensure that confidential or sensitive information is not communicated within the AHI CIO, except to those who have a need to know such information to perform their responsibilities.

Honest and Ethical Conduct and Fair Dealing

AHI CIO requires that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO:

1)     deal honestly, ethically and fairly with the AHI CIO's employees, contractors and providers.

2)     Statements regarding the AHI Health Promoting School model and services must be true and never misleading, deceptive or fraudulent.

3)     not take unfair advantage of anyone through manipulation, concealment, abuse of privileged information, misrepresentation of material facts or any other unfair-dealing practice.

Protection and Proper Use of AHI CIO Opportunities

AHI CIO requires that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO:

1)     advance the AHI CIO's legitimate interests when the opportunity to do so arises.

2)     not take for yourself personal opportunities that are discovered through your position with the AHI CIO or the use of property or information of the AHI CIO.

Accuracy of Books and Records and Public Reports

AHI CIO requires that everyone working for AHI CIO, including permanent and temporary employees, contractors and self-employed contracted providers and volunteers working in or on behalf of the AHI CIO:

1)     honestly and accurately report all business transactions. You are responsible for the accuracy of your records and reports. Accurate information is essential to the AHI CIO's ability to meet legal and regulatory obligations.
